The area also offers world-class Colorado recreational activities for an endless amount of things to do year-round.

Redstone was developed in the late 19th century by the industrialist John Cleveland Osgood whose coal empire started the construction of the railroad along the Crystal River. Redstone's beehive coke ovens were built to transform raw coal into high-grade “coke” that was used in the production of steel. Osgood constructed many cottages, an inn, bathhouse facilities, a club house with a library and a theatre, as well as a school for his workers. Many of these cottages are still used as homes today. In addition, he built the opulent 42-room tudor-style mansion “Cleveholm Manor” for his second wife, Swedish Countess Alma Regina Shelgrem. Now referred to as the “Redstone Castle” the manor is excellent to view from a sleigh ride.

All year long, Redstone provides wonderful Colorado outdoor activities, and AvalancheRanch is a great starting point for these adventures. During the winter, Redstone offers a Nordic skiing course which is exceptional for cross-country and skate skiing. Many White River National Forest Trailheads are accessible to snowshoers as well. Ice climbing is available in the area and world-class downhill skiing is only 35 miles away. A horse drawn sleigh ride down the boulevard or to the Redstone Castle is a truly unique experience during the winter months. In the spring, summer, and fall, there is an abundance of outdoor activities. Fishing, mountain biking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, jeep tours, hiking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hunting, and photography can all be done in or near Redstone.

Redstone provides a unique shopping experience that is hard to resist. Quaint shops are full of home furnishings, fine art, antiques, and handcrafted items. The Hightower Trading Post is a jewelry emporium featuring vintage and contemporary Native American pieces as well as Sterling Silver and semi-precious stones. Home furnishings can be found at the AvalancheRanchAntiqueStore, the Redstone Company Store, and Tiffany of Redstone. Home of the Rocky Mountain Teddy Bears and the amazing Motion Clocks, Wild Horse Enterprises is another great shop to explore. Fine art including sculpture, painting, and elegant jewelry can be viewed at the Redstone Art Center.

In the heart of pristine Colorado mountain wilderness, Redstone is an enchanting little town that has a wealth of outdoor activities in a romantic and unspoiled setting. Redstone is a perfect destination for families, romance, reunions, weddings, or retreats.
